Hi! I'm Dan - with more than 20 years of touring and teaching experience. Playing and Singing at the same time is like its own instrument.
You are, quite literally, playing two instruments at once. I'll help take the mystery out of this for you so that you learn quickly and hit the stage ready to rock your favorite covers or perform your original songs.Yes! Give Me My First Lesson for only $20!
Phase 1. Sync Your Guitar and Voice.
One of the most difficult aspects of learning to play and sing can be keeping one rhythm on your guitar and another with your voice.
The first thing we'll work on is making your guitar playing automatic so you can focus on the story you're telling with your voice.
Phase 2. Learn Tricks and Techniques.
For your vocals I have a series of exercises that teach you all the techniques western singers use. You'll be putting grit in your voice where you want it, making it sweet other times, learning to fry, expanding your range, improving your pitch and, well, learning to sing like you've always wanted. On the guitar we'll help you learn to embellish your strumming and finger picking, fit in riffs, and handle the solos when you're performing alone.
Phase 3. Unlock Your Unique Voice and Style.
Most music you learn in the beginning is an emulation of another musician you admire. But eventually, we want you to find your own unique style and voice. What makes your music your music? We'll help
you recognize what is special about
your artistry so you develop an authentic style you're proud of.
Phase 4. Master Your Performance.
A singer on stage is a storyteller, so we must also learn to use our entire body to tell the story of our song. Everything from the looks on your face to whether you sit or stand to holding the mic or having it on the stand impacts a performance. We'll make sure you know what you need know to own the stage every time.
Between your lessons you can text or email me videos with questions about your playing. I'll answer back with a video so you always know what to practice.
Schedule your lessons online at whatever time you choose. You're never locked into a day and time. If you're going to play for life, then playing has to fit your life.
Most of my students save hundreds of dollars a year buying lessons in blocks of 5 or 10. And, the text/video help between lessons gets you a lot instruction for your lesson dollar.
"Dan is a great musician and fantastic educator. He is a fantastic resource for guiding adults through a systematic and effective approach to learning not just how to play guitar but on how to be a true musician."
"I've been practicing guitar with Dan for years, and I can't recommend him enough. He's a talented musician, yes, but what sets him apart are his decades of experience teaching others. He's fun and patient, and knows how to push just the right amount to get the best out of his students."
"Dan is an amazing teacher. I still can't believe how far I’ve come in such a short period of time. Dan does an outstanding job of meeting you at your level and giving you a path to move up."
Sounds crazy, but most people who have never taken voice lessons before find dramatic improvement after just a couple lessons. So to "carry a tune" doesn't seem to take long at all. Mastery on the other hand? That's the 10,000 hours of practice thing you always hear about - and there are no shortcuts. I encourage you to enjoy the process. Learn to love practicing and singing will be a brilliant addition to your life.
You can do a lot with small amounts of practice time. At a minimum, you'll want to practice about two hours a week and break that into two to seven sessions as your schedule allows. Of course, some weeks you'll practice more and some weeks less. As long as you dedicate a couple hours a week to working on your playing, you will progress.
My base cost for a lesson is $65/hr. For myriad good reasons, I only do hour lessons. I give 10% or 15% off bundles of five and ten lessons making your lessons as low as $55/hr. Not only that, all students get access to my huge online resource library and video support between lessons so your lesson dollars go even further.
Stop that. Everyone is musical. Trust me.Often what we think of as a person being "musical" is just early exposure to making music. Maybe that was lessons from grandpa, singing in the church choir, or coming from a family that sang songs in the car.Likewise, people who feel they can't sing, keep time, or be "musical" usually didn't have exposure to music at a young age. If that's you, it's cool. I promise music is in you - or you wouldn't be on my website, right?
Daniel's previous career as a high-level combat sports coach gives him a unique perspective on
musical practice and learning. His systematic, step-by-step approach to
playing and practicing
makes him a sought after teacher and mentor by students all over the world.
