The Coach

Cam Ellsworth

Cam Ellsowrth is a highly accomplished Ice hockey coach and leader. He hails from Leamington, Ontario Canada. Cam holds an undergraduate degree in Business with a concentration in Finance from Michigan Tech and an MBA in Managerial Leadership from UMass Lowell.

After starting his playing career with the Soo Indians, Cam eventually moved to Michigan Tech and set school records for games played and saves. His solid performance allowed him to play for the ECHL until his retirement in 2008.

Cam's leadership journey demonstrates the power of athletics as a catalyst for community impact. As assistant coach at UMass Lowell (2011-2018), he helped build the Division I program to prominence, capturing three Hockey East Championships.

At Norwich University as head men's ice hockey coach, Cam's authentic leadership style maintained one of the top five winning percentages in the country. His impact was immediate, leading the team to the NCAA Division III national championship game in his first season (2018-19) and securing two NEHC Championships.

The following season, he earned the Ed Jeremiah Award as Division III National Coach of the Year before the season's Covid-19 interruption. In his seven seasons at Norwich, Cam’s commitment to the team led them to an outstanding record of 115-39-19.

His leadership through the Covid era showcased his ability to maintain program excellence during unprecedented challenges. Cam founded the Darn Tough Sock Toss, delivering essential items to those in need throughout Vermont.

He also volunteered with the Air Peyton Foundation, which has raised over $100,000 for pediatric cancer research and support. Named in memory of Col. Matt T. Smith's son Peyton, this initiative exemplifies the impact of athletics supporting crucial community causes.

Throughout his career, Cam's leadership has been grounded in his deepest personal commitments. As a husband of 19 years to wife Julie, and father to son Asher and daughter Addyson, he demonstrates that true leadership begins at home and extends through service to others.
