From Passion to Production:

A Filmmaker's Journey Through the Impossible

Have you ever dreamed of bringing your wildest imagination to life on the big screen?

That's exactly what drove me to embark on an exhilarating journey from a fight gym highlight reel creator to a full-fledged filmmaker.

Buckle up as I take you through the twists and turns of my filmmaking adventure, learn lessons from us to streamline your process to the big screen and a higher level of production, along with how it led to the creation of Legacy Production House.

The Spark That Ignited a Dream

It all started with a simple passion for film and entertainment. Like many aspiring filmmakers, I found myself glued to YouTube, soaking up every bit of knowledge I could about graphic design and video editing.

I started by creating highlight reels for the fight team at the gym where I worked. Little did I know, this was just the beginning of an incredible journey.

As I honed my skills, I dove deeper into the world of motion graphics and visual effects (VFX). The COVID-19 pandemic hit, and while the world slowed down, my learning accelerated. I spent countless hours mastering the intricate art of VFX, filmmaking, and storytelling.

Insurrection:

A Labor of Love and Learning

All this learning culminated in my first short film, "Insurrection."

Picture this: an action-packed sci-fi thriller about an alien invasion, complete with a clone army and a heroine fighting for survival.

Sounds ambitious for a first-time filmmaker, right? It was, and that's exactly why I chose it.

With no budget and a head full of dreams, I took on every role imaginable - director, producer, editor, choreographer, VFX artist, costume designer & more. It was a crash course in filmmaking that no film school could provide.

The Challenges and Triumphs

Creating "Insurrection" was no walk in the park. We faced numerous hurdles:

1. Lighting challenges: Getting the right mood and atmosphere was tougher than I imagined.

2. Budget constraints: Every decision had to be weighed against our (non-existent) budget.

3. Location issues: Finding and securing the perfect spots for our sci-fi world was a quest in itself.

4. Permit puzzles: Navigating the world of filming permits was like solving a complex riddle.

Despite these obstacles, we persevered. The premiere at Lighthouse Studios in Bali was a moment I'll never forget. Seeing 80-100 people show up for my first short film was both thrilling and humbling.

Lessons Learned:

The Heart of Filmmaking

Looking back, the biggest lesson I learned was this:

trying to do everything yourself reflects in the end product. While it's an incredible learning experience, it's not the path to the highest production value.

Here are some key takeaways for aspiring filmmakers:

1. Focus on your strengths:

Stick to what you're best at and collaborate with others for the rest.

2. Build a team:

Surround yourself with enthusiastic and skilled individuals who share your vision.

3. Plan meticulously:

Pre-production is crucial. The more you plan, the smoother your shoot will be.

4. Embrace learning:

Every challenge is an opportunity to grow and improve your craft.

From Short Films to Hollywood-Level Productions

My journey didn't stop with "Insurrection." Before diving into my own projects, I had the incredible opportunity to work on "The Siege of Robin Hood," a million-dollar budget feature film. I created the animatic credit scene graphics, which, as Paul Alica put it, "looks like something that just came out of Hollywood."

This experience, along with creating animated posters and working on various VFX projects for other short films, further honed my skills and prepared me for the next big step.
