Humorous short story--a search for identity.

Married, living on an acreage, raising two elementary school-age children, gardening, tending animals, Kathleen feels she lost something. She's ready to go to the city and apply for an office job.

Somewhere in the dusty rows of burned-out gardens of the past two scorching Oklahoma summers, I'd lost something. Something I needed to backtrack and regain. I wasn't exactly sure what that something was, but in producing mushy dill pickles and syrupy home-canned jelly, I often turned around to see where the real Kathleen had disappeared to.

Circumstances go a bit awry. As they often do in our search for self.
